How to Reheat Crab

Fresh crabs off the coast of Florida are a modern delicacy, and it should be a crime to waste a single bite of this delicious food! Luckily, there are several ways to reheat them that produce tender, flaky results that are never rubbery or dry. As one of Florida's leading crab leg experts, Billy's Stone Crab is here to help shine some light on the best ways to reheat crab legs so you can savor every bite of some of the best products we have to offer.

Reheat Crab Legs By Steaming Them

Steaming is a great way to reheat crab legs that enhances the flavor of the juicy meat and provides quick results. Begin by filling a large pot with a couple of inches of water. Place a steamer basket or colander at the bottom while making sure that there is enough space between the basket and the water. Cover the pot and heat on high until it begins to boil. Add the crab claws, cover the pot, and let them steam for 8 to 10 minutes. When they're nice and hot, you can remove the crab claws with tongs. Work in batches if you've got a lot of crabs to reheat.

Reheat Crab Legs in the Oven

Reheat crab legs in the oven if they're frozen or if you have a lot of them to cook. With this method, you can bake a lot of crab legs at one time, and they'll all be ready to eat at once. Start by preheating your oven to 350° F. Place a wire rack inside a roasting pan and add water until it's about one inch deep. Place the crab legs on the wire rack and cover the roasting pan with aluminum foil. Poke several holes throughout to allow steam to escape. Bake the crab claws for 3-5 minutes, based on whether they’re thawed or frozen. You don’t want to cook them, you’ll just want them to get nice and warm. Once they're nice and hot, remove them from the oven and enjoy!

Reheat Crab Legs On the Grill

Gas and charcoal grills can both be used to reheat crabs. Simply turn on the gas to medium heat on one side or put hot coals on one side of your charcoal grill. This creates areas for direct and indirect heat. Place a pan filled with a few inches of water on the side with direct heat. Shut the lid until the water begins to steam. Then, open the lid and add the crab legs to the side of the grill with indirect heat. They will be ready to eat in 10 to 15 minutes!

Pro tip: Rearrange the crab legs after 5-7 minutes to make sure they're being heated evenly.
